Flashbacks of a Fool
"Flashbacks of a Fool" (2008)- directed by Baillie Walsh. The movie stars Daniel Craig as Joe Scott, a washed up, selfish actor who revisits his past footstep that lead him where he is today.
Thoughts: I really dislike spreading too much in the synopsis, as it's rarely a clear indication of the movie. Much like judging a book by it's cover. If you're looking for a movie like James Bond, this title may not be for you, however, if you're interested in a different side of Daniel Craig, you'll definitely see that here.
Much of the movie is set in Joe Scott's (Craig) past. The name clearly represents the film. From a boy, to an actor, and some secrets in-between.
The Man Who Wasn't There
Today's Recommendation is the 2001 movie "The Man Who Wasn't There", directed by Joel Coen, and written by both Ethan and Joel Coen.
The movie stars Billy Bob Thornton, Frances McDormand, and James Gandolfini. Scarlett Johansson has a small spot as well.
Ed Crane (Thornton) is a barber who is attempting to seek more than life has to offer him. The movie is set in 1949 Northern California. The noir of the film is authentic, and can be felt. Crane's wife (McDormand) begins cheating on him, and Crane schemes to blackmail her lover, encountering all the things than can and will go wrong.
Thoughts: Billy Bob Thornton not only plays the part, he IS Crane. Every facial expression, every twitch makes you think he is living the part. The twists and turns of the suspense are easily followed, but unpredictable. If you like noir films, and the Coen brothers, this should be a gem for you as well!
Welcome
So, here it is! After watching some 300 or more Netflix movies, I decided to let my friends know that there are still some great flicks alive on the service. Many complaints arise over the selection of current releases, yet I find a good, great, or essential movie every time I really sit down and search the database.
Foreword: Many of the movies I find are independent, foreign, or a few years old, but that doesn't make them irrelevant. If you're only looking for new releases, please try Blockbuster. There are many actors, actresses, and directors who have gems in their past. My hope is to uncover a few and help bored people such as myself, occupy their time! This list is certain to NOT please everyone. Just as not all music is for all people, this applies to movies too. Please be respectful and honor difference of opinions.
